College Prepares Graduating Students for Jahiziya Exam with Comprehensive Pre-Test
On November 4, 2024, final-year students from nine campuses participated in a comprehensive pre-test organized by the Jahiziya Committee within the College of Languages and Translation (CLT). The initiative was led by Dr. Merzin Al-Shahrani, an esteemed faculty member who recently returned to the college after serving as the Vice President for Academic Development and Quality. His return has been warmly welcomed, and he is spearheading efforts to enhance student readiness for national assessments.
The pre-test aimed to prepare students for the upcoming Jahiziya Exam, a national standardized test. The exam consisted of 100 questions—85 focusing on applied and theoretical knowledge and 15 covering general topics. This structure mirrors that of the actual Jahiziya Exam, providing students with a realistic preview of what to expect.
Students from all campuses where the BA in English program is currently offered attended the pre-test. The large turnout reflected the students' dedication and the college's commitment to inclusive education.
Addressing the students, Dr. Al-Shahrani emphasized the significance of the pre-test in their academic journey. "This pre-test is a crucial step in your preparation for the future," he remarked. "It not only assesses your current knowledge but also highlights areas where you can improve before the Jahiziya Exam. Your performance here will help shape the final stages of your undergraduate education."
He reflected on the program's importance, noting how it aligns with the college's mission to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge. "Our goal is to foster an environment where you can excel academically and professionally," he added. "This program is a testament to our commitment to your success and to the broader objectives of the college."
Instrumental in overseeing the administration of the test, Dr. Ibrahim Alasmari, Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, coordinated the logistics of invigilation. He expressed pride in his team's efforts to ensure the exam ran smoothly across all campuses, providing a fair and conducive testing environment for all students.
The Alumni Unit at the male campus, in collaboration with the E-Learning Unit, proactively launched a dedicated Blackboard course on November 7, 2024, for these students. This online platform provides additional resources and materials to further enhance their preparation for the Jahiziya Exam. "We are leveraging digital tools to support our students," a representative from the Alumni Unit stated. "Our aim is to provide accessible and comprehensive materials that cater to their needs."
The Dean of the College, Dr. Ahmad Assiri, expressed his support for the initiative. "The success of our students is our top priority," he said. "I commend the efforts of our faculty and administrative teams in creating opportunities that empower our students to achieve their best."
Following the pre-test, a detailed analysis of the results was conducted, focusing on each question and domain, as well as individual student performance. This analysis provided valuable insights into the students' understanding and highlighted areas for curriculum enhancement. The findings were crucial in identifying specific areas where students might need additional support, informing teaching strategies moving forward.
The college's proactive approach in organizing the pre-test and subsequent support activities underscores its dedication to student success and academic excellence. Looking ahead, on November 28, 2024, the university will be conducting an exit test, the results of which will provide further insights into student learning outcomes and readiness for professional endeavors. The collaborative effort between faculty, administration, and students reflects a shared commitment to achieving high standards.
