Virtual Workshop Prepares Students for Jahiziya Exam
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 8:00 PM, final-year undergraduate students from the College of Languages & Translation participated in a joint online workshop via Blackboard Collaborate. Organized by the Jahiziya Committee, with support from the Alumni Unit, the session aimed to guide students through the Jahiziya Exam—a national standardized test essential for assessing and sustaining academic programs in English language and linguistics.
In prior sessions, separate workshops were held at both the male and female campuses. However, this time the college opted for an online format to bring together both male and female students in a unified setting. The decision to move online was made to increase accessibility and foster a collaborative learning environment among all students, regardless of campus location.
The workshop was led by esteemed educator Dr. Merzin Al-Shahrani, former Vice Rector of Quality for the university. He provided comprehensive insights into the exam's structure and offered effective preparation strategies. The Jahiziya Exam, developed by the Saudi Education and Training Evaluation Commission, assesses the readiness of final-year undergraduates across various disciplines, focusing on proficiency in English, theoretical linguistics, and applied linguistics for English majors.
The Bachelor of Arts in English program at the college is designed to align with the exam's requirements, ensuring that students acquire the necessary competencies. The exam is divided into three main sections: Advanced English Language Skills, Theoretical Linguistics, and Applied Linguistics. Each section requires a deep understanding and practical application of linguistic knowledge.
During the workshop, students received guidance on developing structured study plans, identifying and strengthening weaker areas, and engaging with online resources. The session emphasized the importance of being familiar with the exam format and managing time effectively.
