Recent Trends in E-Learning
Under the esteemed patronage of the Dean, Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, and the careful supervision of Dr. Muhammed Shuaib Asiri, Vice-Dean for Academic Development & Quality, the Faculty of Languages & Translation's E-Learning Unit organized a seminar on "Recent Trends in E-Learning." This insightful presentation was delivered by Mr. Syed Asif Abbas on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at the E-Learning Training Center A/3/86.
In his discourse, Mr. Abbas shed light on various emerging trends in e-learning, encompassing topics such as micro-learning, multi-device compatibility, and the use of virtual and augmented reality. He underscored the significance of Artificial Intelligence, interactive content, and learnability in the development and enhancement of online courses. Additionally, he underscored the pivotal role of storytelling as a tool to captivate students, thereby infusing their learning journey with a definitive sense of purpose.
Responding to Dean Dr. Al-Melhi's inquiry regarding the impact of e-learning on students' writing skills, Mr. Abbas concurred with the Dean's concerns over the insufficient progress in students' writing abilities. He recommended a reduction in the practice of transliteration to address this issue.
Answering a question from Vice Dean Dr. Shuaib about the relationship between mobile learning and e-learning, Mr. Abbas asserted that mobile learning complements rather than threatens e-learning, acting as a valuable adjunct tool.
When asked by Mr. Rizwan Ghani about recommendations for enhancing e-learning within the Faculty of Languages & Translation, Mr. Abbas suggested an expansion in the use of illustrative content and wearable technology devices.
Mr. Abdullah Al-Rezgi, Director of the English Language Center, as well as other faculty members, graced the seminar with their presence. As the seminar concluded, Mr. Mohsin Khan, the E-Learning Unit Supervisor, expressed his gratitude to all participants for their valuable contributions and insightful recommendations.
