Citation Analysis Report (2016-2024)
This analysis was performed using Harzing's Publish or Perish software, which connects to Google Scholar. The report covers citations for faculty publications from 2016 to 2024, demonstrating the impact and reach of our college's research output.
From 2016 to 2024, our faculty's publications have accumulated a total of 3,446 citations across 413 published papers. This impressive figure highlights the significant impact our researchers have had across various fields, showcasing the global reach of our college's academic contributions.
Citation Analysis by Year
2024: Our faculty received 32 citations across 76 publications, averaging 0.42 citations per publication. While this may seem low, it's important to remember that it takes time for citation counts to appear in databases, and these recent publications have had minimal time to accumulate citations.
2023: Our faculty received 155 citations across 69 publications, averaging 2.25 citations per publication. This shows a significant increase in publication output compared to previous years, though it's important to note that more recent publications have had less time to accumulate citations.
2022: 2022 saw 295 citations across 51 publications, with an average of 5.78 citations per publication, indicating a strong impact for that year's research.
2021: In 2021, there were 301 citations across 50 publications, averaging 6.02 citations per publication, maintaining a consistent level of impact.
2020: 2020 publications garnered 326 citations across 45 publications, with an impressive average of 7.24 citations per publication, highlighting particularly influential research that year.
2019: The year 2019 stands out with 618 citations across 55 publications, averaging 11.24 citations per publication, marking it as a year of exceptionally impactful research.
2018: In 2018, faculty publications received 469 citations across 31 publications, with a high average of 13.7 citations per publication.
2017: 2017 saw 337 citations across 17 publications, averaging 19.82 citations per publication, indicating that while fewer papers were published, they had significant impact.
2016: Notably, 2016 had the highest citation count with 913 citations across 19 publications, averaging an impressive 48.05 citations per publication, suggesting that these publications have become seminal works in their respective fields.
Citation Methodology and Considerations
It's important to note that these citations are based on Google Scholar data. While Harzing's Publish or Perish software can also access Scopus and Web of Science databases, Google Scholar provides the most comprehensive coverage. Our annual citation report is based on Google Scholar because it is the most comprehensive and accessible way to track citations across a wide range of academic disciplines. Google Scholar captures a broader spectrum of scholarly outputs, including conference papers, preprints, and non-English publications, which makes it particularly suitable for our KPI tracking purposes.
A thorough bibliometric analysis would entail also examining databases like Scopus and Web of Science, and removing duplicate entries. However, such an in-depth analysis is more appropriate for individual faculty member evaluations. Our approach using Google Scholar provides a consistent and efficient method for tracking overall citation trends across the college.
Program-Level Citation Tracking
Individual programs also track citations, not on the basis of all papers and faculty members, but rather the faculty members who taught in the program in any given year and their citation count. The Excel sheet "3-19-2025-Citations-2016-2024" hyperlinked at the end of this page is used for that purpose by looking at the roster of faculty members for that given year and program and sorting it accordingly. This sheet contains a comprehensive list of all papers published from 2016 to 2024, along with their respective citation counts categorized by year.
Program-level analysis may also include additional citations from Scopus and Web of Science with duplicates removed. It is worth noting that the citation data we report here on the website not only reflects our academic impact but also serves as an indicator of our broader societal influence. Google Scholar's wide-ranging coverage allows us to capture the attention our research receives across various platforms, demonstrating how our work resonates both within academic circles and in wider societal contexts.
This approach allows us to maintain a balance between comprehensiveness and practicality in our citation tracking process. While it may not capture every single citation with perfect accuracy, it provides a reliable indicator of our college's scholarly impact for KPI purposes.
