At a seminar held by King Khalid University's Language Research Center on March 21, 2018, Dr. Mihaita Horezeanu offered an insightful presentation on cloze tests and their practical application. His presentation, entitled "The Gaps that Speak for Themselves or How to Create a Cloze (T) Test," delved into the diverse facets of this unique testing tool.
Earlier this week, an awards ceremony took place to recognize and celebrate outstanding accomplishments in research, service, and extracurricular activities. Among those honored was Dr. Munassir Alhamami, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Languages and Translation.
On February 28, 2018, a seminar organized by the Language Research Center featured a presentation by Mr. Bandar Altalidi, entitled "Institutional Fansubbing: A Case Study of the Fansubbing Initiative 'Autrjim'." The presentation was primarily based on his MA research project, providing valuable insights into the strategies and decisions of volunteer translators within the 'Autrjim' initiative.
On February 19, 2018, the Faculty of Language Translation's Webinar Series featured a notable presentation from Lourdes Ortega, Professor of Linguistics at the Department of Linguistics at Georgetown University. The E-Learning Deanship of King Khalid University provided support for the webinar, which successfully drew the attention of nearly 170 participants from across the Kingdom.
From Sunday, February 11, 2018 to Thursday, February 15, 2018, the Faculty of Languages and Translation's E-Learning Unit orchestrated the "12th E-Learning Awareness Campaign." This valuable initiative, aimed at level 1 department students, was held under the auspices of Dean Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi and the oversight of Vice Dean for Academic Development & Quality, Dr. Mohammed S. Assiri.
On February 14, 2018, the Faculty of Languages and Translation's Language Research Center hosted a seminar featuring a thought-provoking presentation by Dr. Haseeb Ahmed. Titled "Environmental Ethics: An Exploration of Islamic Literature," Dr. Ahmed's talk explored Islamic principles relevant to environmental ethics and protection.
On February 6, 2018, the Faculty of Languages and Translation (clt) hosted a Level 1 Student Orientation at the auditoriums of Building D to warmly welcome incoming students.
The English Club initiated the event, greeting the new arrivals and highlighting the enriching experiences that await them at the clt. Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, Dean of the Faculty, extended a heartfelt welcome, emphasizing the unity within the academic community.
The Faculty of Languages and Translation (clt) was recently awarded a certificate of appreciation by the Deanship of E-Learning for their vital support in delivering the successful eLearning Practitioner Course. Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, Dean of clt, and Dr. Yahya Asiri, Vice Dean, graciously accepted the certificate.
The eLearning Practitioner Course, an initiative aimed at faculty members across the university, was conducted from October 25, 2017, to November 9, 2017. The course was ably delivered by the clt E-Learning Supervisor, Mohsin Raza Khan.
On January 31, 2018, the Language Research Center (LRC) organized a seminar at the Al-Samer Campus, featuring a presentation by Dr. Sara Huseynova. Her presentation, titled "On North American ESL/EFL Teaching Principles and on PPP, ESA, TTT, TBL as the ELL Instruction Methods," focused on the impact and implementation of prominent teaching strategies.
Earlier this month, an audience of nearly 150 attendees gathered to attend a riveting webinar featuring internationally celebrated author and professor James Dean Brown. Drawing on his extensive research expertise, Professor Brown demystified the characteristics of qualitative and quantitative research in applied linguistics research. He further highlighted the evolution of the mixed-methods research (MMR) paradigm.
