Faculty of Languages and Translation Empowers Saudi Educators through Innovative Teacher Training Workshop on English for Professional Purposes

The Faculty of Languages and Translation at King Khalid University is committed to enhancing the academic landscape in Saudi Arabia through strategic partnerships with leading institutions. To this end, it collaborated with the Abha College of Technology during the week of August 28, 2016, delivering a comprehensive week-long teacher training workshop focused on English for Professional Purposes (EPP).

This innovative workshop was chaired and steered by Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, and was warmly welcomed by instructors from the English Language Center of the Abha College of Technology (ELC). Dr. Ahmed Najji, Chairman of the ELC, expressed profound gratitude for the fresh pedagogical approaches and insights introduced to the attendees.

Notably, Dr. Muhammad Naji, a member of the prestigious Shura Council, was present during the workshop's final day, further underscoring its significance.

Throughout the week, Dean Al-Melhi and Language Instructor Hassan Costello guided participants through a rich curriculum designed to elevate their teaching methodologies and practical skills. The key areas covered included:

  • Applied Linguistic Theories and Practical Applications: A deep dive into theoretical frameworks and their direct implications for language teaching.
  • Reading and Literacy Teaching Methods: Innovative approaches for teaching reading and promoting literacy.
  • Web 2.0 Tools and Computer Assisted Language Learning: Exploring how digital tools can enhance language learning.
  • Developing an Essential Skill Set for Effective Multilevel Instruction: Preparing educators to address diverse learning needs in their classrooms.
  • Presentation, Practice, and Production Techniques in EFL Teaching: Strategies for engaging, practical, and effective English as a Foreign Language instruction.
  • Innovative Speech, Pronunciation, and Listening Teaching Methods: Cutting-edge methods to improve students' oral language and listening skills.
  • Nonnative English Speakers in TESOL (NNEST) Overview: Addressing the unique challenges and opportunities presented by teaching English to speakers of other languages.
