Students on the Academic Time & Stress Train: clt Teaches How to Stay on Track Without Running out of Steam
On October 29, 2019, the English Club orchestrated a workshop titled 'Stress and Time Management', facilitated by Dr. Karem Abdelatif Ahmed. The primary objective of this workshop was to equip students with strategies to manage stress effectively, thereby enabling them to maintain high-performance levels even under challenging circumstances.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Dawood Mahdi, an Academic Guidance Counselor, who emphasized the importance of attending programs aimed at enhancing academic performance. Drawing from his personal experiences, he illustrated the art of balancing personal and academic responsibilities.
Dr. Ahmed initiated his segment by highlighting that stressors are an inherent part of life, growing in intensity with age and professional responsibilities. He emphasized the importance of maintaining perspective, advising students not to perceive every challenging situation as a crisis. He advocated for responding to stressful circumstances with diligence and grace, acknowledging the impossibility of controlling every outcome. The unhealthy physical and psychological effects of chronic exposure to heavy stress were also discussed.
Subsequently, the workshop delved into the concept of time. Dr. Ahmed debunked the notion of 'time management,' underscoring that time is unyielding and relentless. He emphasized that the management of priorities, rather than time itself, is key. He proposed a strategy involving the setting of tangible short-term and long-term goals, committing them to writing, and assigning each a target date. He advised the students to devote the majority of their time to these objectives and track their progress daily, steering clear of activities that distract from their main goals.
Toward the end of the workshop, Faisal Alfadhil, the English Club Director, guided students on how to leverage the club's social media accounts to stay connected. He encouraged them to join the club's WhatsApp group and strengthen their network with classmates.
The Faculty of Languages and Translation is steadfast in its commitment to providing top-notch language education, and continually equips its students with the necessary tools to navigate rigorous academic programs successfully.
