Dr. Eyhab Bader Eddin, as part of an ongoing initiative to enhance the understanding of graduate students, has offered an advanced free intensive course on the Parts of Speech. Recognizing the challenges that students face at the graduate or doctoral level, especially when in the process of writing their thesis, dissertations, or research papers, Dr. Bader Eddin held a three-part webinar series during the 2020-2021 academic year. The webinar, designed specifically for graduate students, attracted hundreds of attendees from across the globe, including English teachers and graduate students who sought to address any issues related to the parts of speech.

Dr. Bader Eddin commented, "Even though it might seem unnecessary to have a detailed understanding of the parts of speech, it's essential for graduates from the Faculty of Languages and Translation to present their papers with the correct sentence structure." He also highlighted that Dean Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi and Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies Dr. Munassir Alhamami were fully supportive of his webinar series, aimed at engaging the community, alumni, and current students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The webinars covered a wide array of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Language components
  • Detailed overview of the parts of speech
  • Grammatical hierarchy
  • Sentence types according to structure and communicative function
  • Syntactic theory
  • Language universals
  • Semantic classes
  • Typology of parts of speech systems
  • Overview of parts of speech
  • Nouns as a part of speech
  • Noun types and characteristics
  • Noun plural formation
  • Noun gender
  • Noun Case
  • Noun genitive and -of phrase
  • Meanings of genitive and –of phrase

To reinforce understanding of the topics covered, attendees were given assignments after each session, with the invitation to ask questions to clear any misunderstandings. We have also learned that additional sessions will soon be held to complete the series.
