King Khalid University's Faculty of Languages and Translation (clt) - English Language Center (ELC) recently honored Ahmed Alamoud, a first-year medical program student, with the Outstanding Student Award. This recognition came in light of Ahmed's exemplary performance in the rigorous ENG 019 intensive English language program, a requirement for all incoming medical students, given that core medical school classes are taught in English.

Ahmed distinguished himself among his peers by excelling in the challenging ENG 019 coursework, despite not having prior intensive English instruction or exposure to native English-speaking countries. Not only did he achieve top grades, but he also demonstrated remarkable commitment by dedicating countless hours to self-study outside the classroom.

Rasheed Ali Mohamoud, ENG 019 Course Instructor, highlighted Ahmed's exceptional willingness to assist his peers with their studies throughout the semester, both inside and outside the classroom. Ahmed selflessly took on an unofficial teaching role, mentoring fellow students in key English skills such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Instructor Rasheed praised Ahmed's role model behavior, noting how his hard work, dedication, and academic accomplishments positively influenced his classmates.

Dr. Yahya Asiri, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, and Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, Dean of the Faculty, jointly presented the Outstanding Student Award and commemorative plaque to Ahmed Alamoud. Dean Al-Melhi expressed admiration for Ahmed's English competency and gratitude for his contribution to the ENG 019 program. He commended Ahmed's qualities of professionalism, dedication, discipline, and generosity, stating, "Ahmed embodies the ideal of a competent professional and a good citizen. We have no doubt he will continue to excel acadically, and we look forward to his future contributions as a surgeon serving his community and nation."

In its ongoing commitment to academic excellence, the clt has recently revamped the ENG 019 intensive English program. The revised course offers a robust, modern, and effective framework designed to equip students with the requisite skills to excel at both national and international levels. The restructured course aims to provide students with a well-rounded learning experience, focusing on improving core English skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Additionally, the clt introduced the Language Enhancement Program (LEP) at the Mahala Campus school library to extend learning beyond the classroom. Operating daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, the LEP offers all students the opportunity to further improve their English language proficiency.

The Faculty of Languages and Translation and the English Language Center at King Khalid University remain dedicated to providing world-class language instruction. Language learning is recognized as a key component of the Kingdom's national development program and Vision 2030. Therefore, the clt-ELC continually strives to ensure that students and alumni have the necessary tools and skills for professional excellence and personal growth.
