Al Ekhbariya Interviews KKU’s Translation Unit

On March 22, 2022, Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, Dean of the College of Languages and Translation (CLT), and Dr. Eisa Asiri, Director of the Translation Unit, had a discussion with Al Ekhbariya, a Riyadh-based Arabic news and current affairs satellite TV channel.

Dean Al-Melhi commenced the conversation by providing an overview of the CLT's establishment, its academic responsibilities, and its recently achieved full accreditation status for the Bachelor of Arts in English program. He further delved into the community roles the CLT plays, highlighting the faculty's collaboration with a multitude of government and private institutions. He then shifted focus towards forthcoming developments, specifically emphasizing the rise of the Chinese language in Saudi Arabia and the CLT's proactive response through the creation of the Department of Modern Languages.

Subsequently, Dr. Eisa Asiri elaborated on Dean Al-Melhi's key points. He spoke about the newly established Translation Unit at the university level, and its aim to ensure CLT students, as well as students across all colleges, fully benefit from a range of short-term and long-term programs. Dr. Asiri underlined the unit's role in translating research outputs and materials from Arabic into other languages, thereby serving the local Asir community. This work not only fosters a sense of community partnership but also aids in training qualified personnel to meet the needs of the region.
