On February 26, 2020, a valuable workshop titled 'LinkedIn Learning' was conducted by Mohsin Khan, the Alumni Unit Coordinator at the Faculty of Languages and Translation (clt). Supervised by Dr. Abdulrahman Almosa, the Vice Dean for Academic Development & Quality, the workshop aimed to address a pressing issue — the lack of knowledge among students regarding LinkedIn Learning and its potential benefits.

The main objective of the workshop was to enhance awareness about LinkedIn and its educational counterpart, LinkedIn Learning. Khan emphasized the need for students to leverage this platform, which is unfortunately underutilized due to a lack of awareness. The event was well-attended by clt staff and a group of students, who showed keen interest in the topic.

With LinkedIn Learning currently offering a staggering 13,000 online courses, Khan tailored the workshop to focus on courses that would be most appealing and relevant to the clt students and faculty. He clarified that LinkedIn Learning is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) provider similar to platforms like KKUx or Coursera and that it offers features like creating and saving lists of courses.

After guiding the participants through the registration process, navigation, and accessing LinkedIn Learning on both desktop and mobile devices, Khan highlighted some key benefits of the platform, which include:

  • Unlimited access to video tutorials;
  • Personalized recommendations based on individual preferences for in-demand skills;
  • Useful resources such as quizzes and exercises.

Vice Dean Almosa underscored the importance of exploiting all available resources for personal and professional development. He noted that the clt's Alumni Unit is committed to promoting LinkedIn Learning as a valuable tool for continuous learning, which is available free of charge to students of the Bachelor of Arts in English program.

Khan concluded the workshop by explaining the 'badging' feature on LinkedIn Learning. He encouraged participants to open an account, register for courses, and earn badges upon course completion. These badges serve as credentials of skills on LinkedIn profiles, thereby boosting prospects for job or internship opportunities. Khan's message resonated strongly with the attendees, thereby marking the workshop as a successful initiative.
