Creating Future Leaders by Teachers as Core Professionals
On February 12, 2020, a seminar organized by the Language Research Center hosted an insightful presentation titled "Creating Future Leaders by Teachers as Core Professionals." Ms. Sharmin Siddiqui and Ms. Sufia Sultana, the presenters, underscored the vital role of teachers in nurturing leadership qualities amongst students in the Bachelor of Arts in English program.
The seminar kicked off with an engaging task where participants were asked to recall and write the names of their high school teachers. This exercise served to highlight that teachers who left a positive impact were often most memorable, drawing attention to the profound influence educators can have on their students.
Ms. Siddiqui and Ms. Sultana emphasized the significance of leadership in the teaching profession, invoking the words of Richard Dufour who described teachers as the creators of all other professions. The correlation between leadership and learning was further reinforced through quotes from figures such as Wendell Willkie, J.F. Kennedy, Henry Adams, and Alexander the Great.
The presentation explored several key topics, including the leadership qualities a teacher should embody, different leadership styles, practical demonstration of leadership in the classroom, the importance of teaching leadership skills, and the potential barriers to developing teacher leadership. A significant focus was placed on the combination of leadership attributes great teachers possess and how these can be imparted to learners, equipping them with essential leadership skills applicable in their lives and future professions.
The seminar, marked by its informative content and interactive approach, proved to be a resounding success. Of note, the Graigor male campus also participated in this enlightening seminar via video conferencing, extending its impact beyond geographical confines.
