On February 9th, faculty members Mohammed Jabir and Erich Beer from the Faculty of Languages & Translation shared their insights on creative writing at a workshop held at Al-Janoub International School in Khamis Mushait. The event was well-received, with numerous students, teachers, and administrators in attendance.

Mohammed Jabir commenced the workshop with a discussion on the philosophies and techniques integral to creative writing. He underscored that storytelling is an inherent human trait, and creative writing serves as an avenue to nurture this instinct. The act of sharing stories allows us to educate, motivate, and challenge others in compelling ways. Jabir also explored various styles of fictional writing, elucidating how each appeals to distinct reader demographics.

Erich Beer directed his segment of the workshop towards tackling practical concerns often encountered in creative writing. He delved into the common struggles faced by writers during the creative process, sharing wisdom gathered from years of teaching creative writing at the university. Beer offered valuable strategies to overcome frequent hurdles such as structuring narratives, combating writer’s block, and executing effective edits.

Both presenters expressed their gratitude towards Al-Janoub International School for graciously hosting the event and arranging post-workshop refreshments. The turnout was impressive, with a marked enthusiasm amongst the attendees.
