Implementing Quality Matters to Build Online Assessments
On November 13th, the E-Learning Unit of the Bachelor of Arts in English program at the Faculty of Languages and Translation held a webinar in partnership with the Deanship of E-Learning. Titled 'Implementing Quality Matters (QM) to Build Effective Online Assessments,' the webinar was attended by 185 faculty members from across the university.
Quality Matters is a peer-reviewed, faculty-centered process aimed at the evaluation and certification of online courses and their components. It has gained both national and international recognition for its capabilities in quality assurance and continuous improvement in online education.
The success of QM is largely credited to its focus on the end user. The QM programs are faculty-driven, collaborative, and capable of providing detailed, constructive course feedback. They foster a collegial environment and are learner-centered in program design and execution.
The webinar was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Abdulrahman Almosa, Vice Dean of Academic Development and Quality, and Mohammed Jarallah, Training Manager at the Deanship of E-Learning. The E-Learning Unit Supervisor, Mohsin Raza Khan, a certified QM Master Reviewer and experienced e-course design professional, delivered the session. He began by reviewing the applicable QM standards for course assessment, followed by an explanation of each evaluative rubric.
Subsequently, Mr. Khan outlined various methods for successful implementation of these standards into online course assessments. He also discussed different QM strategies for integrating online courses into diverse curricula. Concluding the webinar, Mr. Khan commented, "Implementing QM might appear complicated and time-consuming, but the payoff is a well-designed, highly useful course that benefits the students." Vice Dean Almosa concurred, adding, "E-learning and online courses are becoming increasingly vital in education. QM plays a key role in ensuring these courses deliver efficient learning and high value."
