CLT Hosts Freshman Orientation Day for Level 1 Students

On Tuesday, August 27, 2024 (23/2/1446), the College of Languages and Translation (CLT) at King Khalid University (KKU) welcomed its new cohort of Level 1 students during an orientation session held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event provided valuable information to freshmen about university regulations, academic expectations, and the wide array of services and programs available at CLT, setting the tone for their academic journey.

The session was inaugurated by Dean Dr. Ahmad Assiri, who warmly welcomed the new students to CLT and emphasized the importance of understanding and adhering to KKU regulations. He encouraged students to make the most of their time at the university by engaging fully with the academic and extracurricular opportunities offered.

Vice Dean for Academic Affairs & Quality, Dr. Ibrahim Alasmari, provided an overview of the academic requirements and the CLT curriculum. He highlighted the structure of the Bachelor of Arts in English program, ensuring students understood the academic expectations and the significant support services available to help them succeed.

Dr. Dawood Mahdi, the Guidance Counselor for CLT, addressed the students regarding the available support systems within the college, from academic advising to personal guidance, and stressed the importance of seeking help whenever needed.

The event also featured a brief address by Dr. Eisa, Chair of the Translation Department. He spoke about the Bachelor of Arts in Translation program, which students will begin in their fifth semester under the new study plan. He explained that the first four semesters of the Bachelor of Arts in English and Bachelor of Arts in Translation are the same, providing students with a strong foundation in both disciplines. Dr. Eisa also shared insights into potential career paths for translation graduates, such as roles in business, media, and government sectors. The new program will be officially launched in Semester 471, corresponding to August 2025.

Mr. Osama Alqahtani, President of the English Club, concluded the session by introducing the CLT Students Club and inviting students to participate in its activities. He emphasized the importance of extracurricular involvement, noting how it complements academic growth and fosters a sense of community within CLT.

The orientation provided Level 1 students with a comprehensive introduction to KKU regulations, academic programs, and the support available at CLT, equipping them with the knowledge and resources to navigate their first year successfully.
