College of Languages and Translation Welcomes New Students with Comprehensive Academic Roadmap
The College of Languages and Translation at King Khalid University conducted a mandatory orientation meeting for incoming bachelor's degree students on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 11 AM to 12 PM at the college's main theater in Al-Faraa campus.
The hour-plus session, led by the college's entire leadership team including all three department chairs and the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs & Quality, provided new students with essential information for navigating their academic journey in the 1447 AH academic year (2025-2026).
The session was supervised by Dean Dr. Ahmad Assiri, with the program run by Vice Dean for Academic Affairs & Quality Dr. Ibrahim Al-Asmari, English Department Chair Dr. Ali Alamry, Modern Languages Department Chair Dr. Khalid Mater Asiri, and Translation Department Chair Dr. Eisa Asiri.
Program Overview Presented
Students received detailed information about the college's three undergraduate programs: English Language (128 credit hours), Translation (128 credit hours), and Chinese Language (127 credit hours). Each program follows a four-year structure with mandatory, elective, and free credit hour requirements, though the Chinese Language program features a more intensive curriculum with fewer elective options.
Academic Calendar and Digital Systems
The orientation covered critical academic deadlines for the first semester, including course registration periods, excuse submission deadlines, and final exam schedules running through January 2026. Students were introduced to two essential digital platforms: Academia for academic procedures and Blackboard for course content and faculty communication.
Strict Attendance Requirements Emphasized
All three department chairs and the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs & Quality emphasized strict attendance requirements, noting students cannot miss more than 25% of lectures without risking exclusion from final exams. The session detailed acceptable excuses, academic processes, and important procedural deadlines, stressing that all requests must be submitted through digital platforms rather than paper applications.
Rights, Responsibilities, and Support Services
The comprehensive presentation included student rights such as accessing academic records and filing complaints, alongside responsibilities including adherence to dress codes and behavioral standards. Students learned about available support services including academic advising, counseling, and various campus facilities.
Communication Channels Established
The college introduced a WhatsApp group "CLT Students" for ongoing communication and announced QR code access to detailed conduct regulations. Students were advised to monitor both Academia and Blackboard regularly for course updates and announcements.
Career Preparation Emphasis
The orientation concluded with practical advice encouraging students to maintain strong GPAs from their first semester, utilize language development services, and consider pursuing additional certifications alongside their primary degree for enhanced employment prospects.
The mandatory session reflects the college's commitment to ensuring new students understand academic expectations and available resources as they begin their studies in languages and translation.
