King Khalid University's Department of Translation Elevates the Field with a Trailblazing Tourism Translator Competition
On October 9th, 2023, King Khalid University's Department of Translation, led by Dr. Eisa Asiri and significantly supported by the Translation Unit, concluded its groundbreaking Tourism Translator Competition with remarkable success. The event was honored by the presence of His Excellency Prof. Faleh Al-Solami, the University President, and served as an innovative initiative that aligns with the tourism goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.
Spearheaded by the Faculty of Languages and Translation, the event drew over 100 students from universities across the kingdom. Participants were tasked with translating key tourism texts in English, Chinese, and French, through written, interpretation, and audio-visual methods. Dr. Ahmad Ismail Assiri, the Dean of the Faculty, emphasized the competition's alignment with the university's broader mission and the Asir Development Strategy known as 'Qimam and Shem.'
The ceremony showcased a multimedia presentation and an interactive segment that highlighted the critical role of modern translation in fostering cultural exchange. His Excellency, Prof. Faleh Al-Solami, paid tribute to the organizing committee and announced the list of awardees across various categories.
This competition serves not only as a spotlight for Saudi Arabia's emerging tourism sector but also as a seminal experience for future translators, highlighting their pivotal role in bridging cultural divides and enhancing global comprehension.
