The mission of the MA in Translation Studies program is to advance students’ expertise, promote regional progress, foster global cooperation, and prepare graduates for excellence and competitiveness in their careers and research.

Program Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding: Students will be able to

K1: Exhibit a synergistic command of English and Modern Standard Arabic that is crucial for adept communication and precise translation.

K2: Acquire knowledge to substantiate translation procedures and strategies through relevant theories and approaches in the field.

K3: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the socio-cultural, historical, and scientific contexts of source texts, as well as the ethical and technical nuances involved in translation evaluation.

K4: Articulate the key phases of translation research and display a profound comprehension of the language and policy challenges inherent in Arabic-English translation.

Skills: Students will be able to

S1: Produce translations that resonate with eloquence in Modern Standard Arabic and English.

S2: Critically apply translation procedures and strategies with reference to theories and approaches to translation.

S3: Critically appraise and compare source and target texts with reference to the linguistic, socio-cultural, historical, or scientific backgrounds of their authors, translators and audiences.

S4: Skillfully negotiate options and utilize advanced methods and technology when engaged in ongoing translation activities and research.

Admission Terms/Conditions/Requirements

In addition to fulfilling the criteria outlined in the Unified Regulations for Postgraduate Studies in Saudi Universities, applicants must also:

1. Possess a bachelor’s degree in language with a minimum GPA of 3.75 out of 5.

2. Attain the required score in one of the following standardized tests:

A. TOEFL Test with a minimum score of 79 (IBT), STEP with a minimum score of 97, or IELTS with a minimum score of 6.0.

B. Post-Graduate General Aptitude Test (PGAT) with a minimum score of 60%.

The Department Council and College Council have the right to add any condition as necessary.
