The paper titled "Essence of Metacognitive Awareness Strategies in Acquiring/Developing Proficiency in Different Foreign Language Skills: An Effective Language Learning Experience" primarily focuses on examining the role of metacognitive awareness strategies in enhancing proficiency in various foreign language skills. The study investigates the relationship between metacognitive strategies and the development of language skills such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
The purpose of the study is to explore how metacognitive awareness strategies contribute to the development and improvement of language proficiency. The research specifically looks into the perceptions of foreign language learners and university lecturers regarding the utilization of these strategies, aiming to fill the gap in existing literature that has mostly concentrated on the role of these strategies without considering the viewpoints of the learners and instructors.
The study employs a quantitative research methodology, utilizing a digitally designed questionnaire to collect data from 107 participants, including foreign language students and university lecturers. The data is analyzed using Jamovi statistical software, and the hypotheses are tested through a T-test to validate the findings.
Key findings of the research indicate that metacognitive awareness strategies positively impact the development of language skills. The study highlights that frequent use of these strategies leads to improved performance in language-related tasks. However, it also identifies challenges such as the time-consuming nature of these strategies and difficulties in accurate self-assessment by learners. The research reveals that the effectiveness of metacognitive strategies varies across different language skills, with reading and writing being particularly impacted.
The study concludes that metacognitive awareness strategies play a significant role in language learning by enhancing students' proficiency in various language skills. It emphasizes the importance of integrating these strategies into language education and addressing the challenges identified to maximize their effectiveness. The findings suggest that by incorporating metacognitive strategies into the curriculum and providing individualized feedback, language learners can achieve greater success in acquiring and developing foreign language proficiency.
