Committee for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research

The Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research presides over this committee. In case this is not feasible, a member of the faculty or their equivalent, who has sufficient experience in the field of postgraduate studies and scientific research, is chosen. The tasks of this committee are as follows:

4.1 Coordinate the academic schedule for postgraduate levels, both Master's and Ph.D., while taking into consideration:

  • 4.1.1.1 The faculty’s overall teaching workload (sum of all departmental teaching loads).
  • 4.1.1.2 Distribution of students across study groups for each academic course.

4.1.2 Adopt clear and efficient procedures in the college concerning course registration, addition and deletion, and registration of scientific theses for Masters and Ph.D.

4.1.3 Collaborate with the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies concerning transfer, deferment, deprivation, discontinuation, cancellation, and re-registration.

4.1.4 Coordinate with the General Administration of Scholarships on matters related to the admission of international students into postgraduate programs, in accordance with prevailing regulations and procedures.

4.1.5 Collaboratively coordinate the examination schedule in the college with the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies, keeping in mind:

  • 4.1.5.1 Adopting the student distribution plan according to each department’s academic plan.

  • 4.1.5.2 Dissemination of examination instructions through all available means.

  • 4.1.5.3 Preparation of examination halls with all necessary resources.

  • 4.1.5.4 Ensuring no student has simultaneous exams.

  • 4.1.5.5 Striving to avoid scheduling two exams for a student on the same day.

  • 4.1.5.6 Adopting a fair and objective distribution of faculty members across examination halls.

  • 4.1.5.7 Adopting clear and efficient procedures to regulate the examination process in the college.

  • 4.1.5.8 Implementing relevant regulations for exam malpractices such as cheating, or causing disruptions.

  • 4.1.5.9 Adopting clear procedures for forming thesis defense committees for Master’s and Ph.D., and criteria for grading by each committee member.

4.1.6 Coordinate schedules for make-up exams for students, as per prevailing regulations.

4.1.7 Ensure all examinations run optimally and provide timely solutions as necessary.

4.1.8 Adopt examination process reports, address any issues, and suggest future improvements.

4.1.9 Implement student appeal mechanisms for examination results and address all cases that come to the committee, as per prevailing regulations.

4.1.10 Continually enhance admission criteria for postgraduate studies.

4.1.11 Continuously update and review current postgraduate programs.

4.1.12 Propose new postgraduate programs based on market needs, economic development, societal demands in the Kingdom, and in line with Vision 2030 and the university's strategic plan.

4.2 Coordinate among all those involved in scientific research to ensure optimal implementation, focusing on:

  • 4.2.1 Collaborate with the Deanship of Scientific Research and the university’s research centers regarding research procedures and submission of research proposals to supporting entities.

  • 4.2.2 Motivate faculty members to submit research proposals to supporting entities.

  • 4.2.3 Study research proposals from postgraduate students, ensuring they align with research methodologies and serve the faculty's research interests that benefit both the university and society.

  • 4.2.4 Develop the faculty’s research labs and optimize their use for research purposes.

  • 4.2.5 Offer support to teaching assistants seeking scholarships to reputable universities that rank highly in global university rankings.

  • 4.2.6 Offer support to scholarship recipients facing challenges in their studies and research.

  • 4.2.8 Encourage faculty members to publish research papers in globally recognized journals.

  • 4.2.9 Evaluate all scientific research processes, research publishing, propose appropriate suggestions, and continually strive for improvement.

4.3 Examine matters referred to the committee by the Dean of the Faculty or the Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research. Submit appropriate suggestions or take relevant decisions within the powers granted or delegated in writing.

Performance Indicators:

  1. Number of postgraduate programs that were internally and externally evaluated during the year.
  2. Number of postgraduate programs that were developed based on annual evaluation results.
  3. Number of postgraduate programs introduced based on the analysis of job market needs annually.
  4. Percentage of courses that were evaluated and compared to similar courses in benchmark universities in terms of content, textbook, teaching methods, expected outcomes, and evaluation mechanisms.
  5. Percentage of courses that were developed based on annual evaluation results.
  6. Percentage of courses that use electronic learning systems (e.g., Blackboard) annually.
  7. Percentage of international students in each program out of the total number of students annually.
  8. The rate of increase in accepted students in postgraduate programs annually compared to their numbers in the previous year.
  9. Number of postgraduate students who obtained their academic degree within the specified period for graduation, and their percentage compared to the previous year's figures.
  10. Number of proposals reviewed by the committee annually that received appropriate internal (from the university) and external support.
  11. Number of researchers from the faculty and postgraduate students who benefited from the research laboratory services in the college annually.
  12. Number of researchers from faculty members and postgraduate students who benefited from the services of the central lab at the university, and their percentage out of the total beneficiaries in the university.
  13. Percentage of faculty members who published at least one peer-reviewed scientific research paper in the past year.
  14. Percentage of scientific papers presented in scientific conferences to the number of faculty members in the college, in the past year.
  15. Number of teaching assistants who benefited from the committee's services in scholarships to reputable universities that hold a leading position in global rankings (less than 500).
  16. Number of scholarship teaching assistants to whom the committee provided assistance to confront challenges that hinder the achievement of their goals.
  17. Number of textbooks for postgraduate courses in the college, available in the university library.
  18. Beneficiary satisfaction rate from the committee's activities.
