clt Conducts Teacher Training in Mohaiyl
In an empowering educational initiative on January 26-27, 2016, a select team from the Faculty of Languages and Translation embarked on a journey to Tharban, Al Majardah Province. The team, constituted by four clt educators, conducted an interactive English language seminar, packed with motivational content for the teachers of the Mohaiyl region.
The seminar was inaugurated by the respected Dean, Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, whose elucidation on 'The Schema Theory of Reading' captivated the audience. He seamlessly mapped the intricacies of three unique models of reading to the current school curricula, setting the tone for the day's proceedings.
Following Dr. Al-Melhi's impressive discourse, Dr. Eyhab A. Bader Eddin took the floor. He led an in-depth exploration into the 'Mother Tongue Influence on Second Language Acquisition and Use.' His talk highlighted the substantial impact of native language structures on second language development, discussing both the positive and negative implications of this linguistic transfer.
The seminar's second day was equally compelling, featuring two highly anticipated presentations. Mr. Faruk Haji opened the day by elucidating the 'Use of Social Media in the Classroom.' His practical demonstration on integrating a classroom-specific Facebook account, complete with assignments and examinations, proved to be an innovative approach to modern-day education.
Finally, Mr. Matthew Paul leveraged the popularity of video gaming in his engaging talk titled 'Using Popular Video Games to Motivate Students to Learn English.' He aptly exemplified the renowned video game 'Minecraft', showcasing how such games can be utilized as teaching tools to pique students' interest in English.
Each session concluded with an enlightening question-and-answer segment, enabling participants to further delve into the topics discussed. Overall, the seminar was an invaluable experience, fostering a fruitful exchange of knowledge and expertise with local teachers, and shaping a brighter future for education.
