Helping Students Get Ahead: English Club Delivers Online Webinar
On May 4, 2020, the Guidance and Counselling Unit, in collaboration with the English Club, held an online webinar titled 'Staying Home & Time Management,' presented by Dr. Karem Abdelatif Ahmed. Drawing nearly 50 participants, the webinar aimed to demonstrate how to effectively control and optimize time for productivity during these challenging times, keeping in mind life balance and well-being.
Dr. Dawood Mahdi, Head of the Guidance and Counselling Unit, and Khalid Al-Qasemi, Director of the English Club, oversaw the event. They appreciated the students' participation, acknowledging the difficulties they face during this crisis.
Opening his presentation, Dr. Karem Ahmed stated, "The aim of good time management is to achieve lifestyle balance." He stressed that spending more time on tasks doesn't necessarily yield better results. The most valuable approach is focusing on achieving results in the simplest and most productive way possible, suggesting effective time management is not about working harder. He then offered ten tips for time management, emphasizing, "Remember, successful time management today can lead to greater personal happiness, increased productivity, and a more fulfilling future." He encouraged students to accomplish their educational and personal goals through efficient time management.
As the webinar neared its conclusion, the attendees were treated to 'Real Life Stories.' Dr. Karem Ahmed narrated a series of tales aimed at imparting life lessons to help students reach their potential. During this segment, participants were encouraged to share their own stories. Dr. Hasan Jaashan, Head of the Academic Development & Quality Unit, advised students to make the best use of this time. He referenced historical philosophers who made groundbreaking discoveries while in quarantine. Dr. Mahmoud Radwan joined in, using Daniel Defoe's master of social distancing, Robinson Crusoe, as a compelling example. Crusoe's story of isolation emphasizes the beauty of simple things in life and discovering unexpected sources of fulfillment. Dr. Karem Ahmed concluded that these kinds of fulfillment could be realized by growing closer to Allah.
