PECAL Model: Bringing the Best Together for Dynamic Gains
On November 7th, Dr. Mazeegha Al-Tale' presented her research, titled "PECAL Model: Bringing the Best Together for Dynamic Gains," during a seminar organized by the Language Research Center.
The central goal of Dr. Al-Tale's research, as she detailed in her talk, is to aid the university in nurturing students who are competent, skilled, and capable of making valuable contributions to society. She elaborated on a model she developed to achieve these aims, specifically targeting the effective teaching of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) to university students preparing for the workforce.
The acronym PECAL, she clarified, stands for "Psychological Electronic Cooperative Active Learning". This model was applied to her Applied Linguistics 2 course at the Faculty of Languages and Translation, a course centered on identifying and evaluating diverse teaching methodologies. The research involved a cross-section of participants, including 10 university employees, 83 undergraduate female students, and 20 students enrolled in a diploma program. Dr. Al-Tale' used a comparative approach, analyzing the academic performance of the experimental group and the control group and taking into account several factors related to learner attitudes.
According to Dr. Al-Tale', students responded positively to lectures employing the PECAL Model, with higher success rates influencing teacher attitudes as well. The resultant effect was a more effective learning environment, beneficial to students, teachers, and staff. Dr. Al-Tale' postulated that this model could be adopted and integrated into various academic contexts to create synergies that promote long-term workplace efficiency and continuous improvement.
The presentation concluded with a vibrant question and answer session, with participants curious about the development of the theoretical model. In her responses, Dr. Al-Tale' clarified her concepts, making them more pertinent for her audience. The seminar served as an excellent platform for attendees to gain a deeper understanding of the PECAL Model and its potential application in teaching and learning environments.
