International Volunteer Day Webinar

In anticipation of International Volunteer Day on December 5, 2021, Dr. Siham Alhaidar, Dean of the College of Sciences and Arts at Rijal Almaa, conducted a webinar on November 21, 2021. Titled "The Impact of Voluntary Work in Improving Human Capabilities: Chances and Experiences", the seminar was attended by 90 students. The event aimed to demonstrate how volunteering in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia offers opportunities to grow into valuable societal contributors, while fostering personal development and competence. The webinar was coordinated by Dr. Abdulrahman Almosa, Vice Dean for Academic Development and Quality, and Mohsin Raza Khan, Coordinator of the Alumni Unit.

Dr. Alhaidar commenced the event by elaborating on the concept of volunteer work, highlighting its critical role as a catalyst for social and economic transformation. She pointed out that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has heightened its focus on volunteerism, in line with Vision 2030's goals to expand the volunteer workforce. Several volunteering platforms were introduced, including the National Volunteer Portal, managed by the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (HRSD). This portal holds considerable potential for students and the College of Languages and Translation due to the anticipated growth in the tourism sector. This expected growth is part of HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's SR50 billion tourism strategy for Asir, aiming to attract over 10 million domestic and international visitors by 2030.

Moreover, Dr. Alhaidar spotlighted the volunteering experiences of the College of Sciences and Arts at Rijal Almaa. She emphasized the symbiotic relationship between sustainable development and volunteerism, where volunteers inspire change and raise awareness, echoing the essence of sustainable development that calls for long-term shifts in attitudes and behaviors.
