Publishing in Peer-Reviewed Journals: Challenges and Solutions
On February 3, 2020, the Women's Scientific Research Committee of the Bachelor of Arts in English program hosted a seminar titled "Publishing in Peer-Reviewed Journals: Challenges and Solutions". Led by Dr. Mazeegha Al-Tale', the session aimed to underscore the importance of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and to delineate the necessary steps and techniques to do so.
Dr. Al-Tale' began her presentation by expressing gratitude to the Scientific Research Committee for providing her with the opportunity to discuss this important topic. She also extended her thanks to notable researchers Dr. Fakieh Alrabai and Dr. Munassir Alhamami, whose insights about international publishing significantly enriched her presentation.
In her seminar, Dr. Al-Tale' emphasized the aspiration of faculty members to publish their work in reputable, peer-reviewed journals. She outlined the five crucial steps researchers should follow in their pursuit of publication: selecting a topic through extensive reading, writing the research paper, choosing an appropriate journal, editing the manuscript, and finally, submitting the work. She offered detailed guidance on how each of these steps can be effectively navigated.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Tale' accentuated the need for researchers to scrutinize the impact factor of a journal prior to submission, given its significance in the academic community. She provided a comprehensive list of reliable publishing houses and discussed tools for journal selection. To assist the attendees, she also demonstrated, using live websites, how to verify if a target journal is listed in Scopus, discern whether it is predatory, and confirm the authenticity of its International Standard Serial Number (ISSN).
The seminar was well attended by various members of the academic community, including the Dean's Assistant Dr. Salma Al-Qahtani, Vice Dean Dr. Mona Alshehri, teaching staff, and students. The session was hailed for its informative and engaging nature, contributing significantly to the collective knowledge and understanding of the participants.
