Under the supervision of Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, the Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation (clt), and organized by the English Club, first-year students gathered for the Academic Year 2018-2019 Freshman Orientation Day on Wednesday, September 12.

The Class of 2022 convened for the first time in room A/3/60, where they were warmly received by various administrators, teachers, and the president of the English Club.

Dean Al-Melhi and clt Chairman, Dr. Munassir Alhamami, were accompanied by Dr. Basim Kanaan, the academic advisor, Naser Al-Hawamdeh, the registrar, Mohsin Khan, the e-learning supervisor, as well as LEP Administrators Dr. Charles Forman and Hassan Costello. Additionally, student Abdulaziz Al-Shahrani, the president of the English Club, was present, responsible for overseeing extra-curricular activities and hosting student events. The clt offers a range of extra-curricular activities each semester, including academic and sports competitions, providing opportunities for students to actively participate and make a difference.

The Freshman Orientation aimed to provide students with several benefits. Firstly, it allowed them to grasp the academic and community expectations of being a student at King Khalid University. Secondly, it helped them feel more prepared for their transition into university life. Thirdly, it acquainted them with the available resources. Fourthly, it provided an opportunity to meet with the academic advisor and registrar to gain a deeper understanding of academic expectations. Lastly, it aimed to enhance students' comprehension of the student experience within the Faculty of Languages and Translation.

During the event, the speakers encouraged the new students to get involved and shared seven important tips: attending lectures punctually, completing assignments on time, staying informed through announcements, utilizing Tawasol for course and final exam schedule inquiries, seeking assistance from the academic advisor when needed, attending academic advising support meetings, and visiting the college website for useful links.

Dean Al-Melhi, a fellow graduate of the clt himself from the Class of 1987, extended a warm welcome to the Class of 2022. He assured them of the faculty's commitment to their success and emphasized the availability of support throughout their college journey.

"We want you to thrive, and although the transition from high school to college may pose challenges, we have ample resources to assist you every step of the way," said Dr. Al-Melhi. "We are here for you, and our doors are always open."
