The British Council in Saudi Arabia recently conducted an intensive "Train the Trainer" workshop on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for the staff at King Khalid University. The event took place on the 16th and 17th of December and was specifically designed for the faculty of the Faculty of Languages and Translation.

Renowned IELTS trainer, Lucy McClay, led the two-day workshop. The focus was comprehensive, covering all four skills evaluated in the IELTS exam - listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Further, the workshop aimed to enhance the staff's understanding of the exam, offering in-depth training on conducting mock tests and estimating band scores.

Abdul Rauf Khan, the Head of the IELTS Testing Center at King Khalid University, recognized the workshop as the genesis of a promising partnership between the British Council and the university. He expressed optimism about this collaborative venture leading to long-term cooperation.

The participants greatly valued the event's outcomes, noting:

  • The workshop significantly contributed to their professional development.
  • It fostered a better understanding of the obstacles students encounter while preparing for both the IELTS Academic and General Tests.
  • It instilled increased confidence in teaching IELTS exam preparation classes.

Dr. Abdullah Al Melhi, the Dean, applauded the workshop, stating, "This training provided an exceptional opportunity for professional development. It was collaborative in nature, closely tied to enhancing student learning outcomes."
