Implementing the Quality Matters Rubric in E-Courses

On January 25, 2016, Mr. Mohsin Raza Khan, E-Learning Supervisor, conducted a workshop on the application of the QM rubric in E-courses. The workshop was initiated by Dr. Fahad Otaif, Vice Dean for Academic Development and Quality, who welcomed all participants and emphasized the ongoing significance of the Faculty of Languages and Translation as a leader in QM E-course implementation. The workshop was also attended by Vice Dean Dr. Ali Alamir and Dean Dr. Abdullah Al-Melhi, who highlighted the crucial role of the QM rubric in E-course design. The Dean further emphasized the importance of increasing interaction with students and its positive impact on their learning outcomes.

The workshop focused on the Eight General Standards that need to be implemented in E-courses to meet the rubric standards set by the International Quality Matters (QM) Peer Review Board. These standards are as follows:

  • Course Overview and Introduction
  • Learning Objectives (Competencies)
  • Assessment and Measurement
  • Instructional Materials
  • Course Activities and Learner Interaction
  • Course Technology
  • Student Support
  • Accessibility and Usability


Mr. Mohsin also addressed the issue of alignment and explained its significance in course design. He shared his experiences as a Certified Master Reviewer with the International Quality Matters (QM) Peer Review Board.

The workshop provided valuable insights into the QM rubric and its application in E-courses, fostering a deeper understanding of quality standards and enhancing the overall learning experience.
