Program Description

The Bachelor of Arts in English program at the College of Languages and Translation is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in English language skills, literature, and linguistics, as well as a broad range of cultural and interdisciplinary studies. The program is organized into twelve semesters, during which students will develop their listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary skills, as well as explore various forms of literary and linguistic analysis. In addition, students will have the opportunity to gain practical experience in translation, technology-assisted language learning, and writing for specific purposes, among other areas.

The program begins with a strong focus on basic language skills, including phonetics, phonology, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing. As students progress through the program, they will develop more advanced skills in academic reading and writing, vocabulary building, and critical analysis of literary texts.

In the later semesters, the program emphasizes applied linguistics, including courses on linguistics, morphology, syntax, and phonology, as well as practical courses on speech workshop, technology and language learning, and writing for specific purposes. In addition, students will have the opportunity to explore various forms of literature, including short stories, drama, poetry, and novels.

The program culminates in a focus on research and translation, with courses on research methods, preparation for international tests, and translation. Through this combination of practical and theoretical coursework, the program prepares students for a wide range of career opportunities, including teaching, translation, research, and other areas where strong language skills are in high demand.

Through courses on Islamic culture, students will gain a deeper understanding of the Kingdom's values and traditions, and be better equipped to promote understanding and cooperation between different cultures and languages.

Furthermore, the program aims to fulfill the need for qualified English language teachers at different Saudi universities and colleges. By providing students with the skills and knowledge needed to teach English as a foreign language, the program will help to address the shortage of specialized and highly qualified teachers in this field, and contribute to the development of a skilled, well-trained workforce that is able to meet the demands of the local and international job markets.
