A Debate on "Artificial Intelligence Will Not Improve Our Lives"

Overview: The Language Enhancement Unit (LEU) of the College of Languages and Translation, led by Dr. Khalid Mater Al Asiri, successfully organized a debate regarding the pros and cons of Artificial Intelligence at the Al Fara male campus. The debate centered around the topic: “Artificial Intelligence Will Not Improve Our Lives.”
The Event:
Two teams comprised primarily of first-year students participated in the debate. The participants included:
- Ali Rashed AlQahtani
- Mohammad Abdulwahab
- Abdullah Muraya AlQahtani
- Fawaz Salman Ghazwani
- Ayman Abdurrahman AlShahrani
- Abdulaziz Hasan AlFaifi
- Mohammed Khalid AlShehri
- Nawaf Saad AlShahrani (the sole sixth-year student)
The debaters received training over the course of a month, coordinated by Mr. Mohammad Adil alongside Dr. Justin Sfariac. During the debate, participants presented their arguments and counterarguments effectively, showcasing their analytical skills on both sides of the motion.
The debate was adjudicated by Dr. Abdelhamid Bessaid and Dr. Mohammad Osman. The team supporting the motion underscored the potential misuses of artificial intelligence, while the opposing team highlighted its practical and beneficial applications. Ultimately, the team against the motion secured victory, with Abdulaziz Hasan AlFaifi being recognized as the best speaker of the competition.
Prize Giving:
The Dean of the College, Dr. Ahmed Ismail Asiri, distributed prizes and certificates to the debaters. In his address, Dr. A. Asiri commended the students for their impressive performance and encouraged continued participation in such academic activities. He also expressed gratitude to all members of the Language Enhancement Unit (LEU) for their efforts in organizing this valuable event.
In conclusion, we take pride in our students' achievements and encourage them to continue engaging in academic discourse and critical thinking.
