During a training session on academic writing and writing style held on November 23, 2021, Dr. Nada Alqarni provided an in-depth analysis of the essentials of academic writing. The session began with an overview of academic writing style and its significance in effectively conveying complex ideas.

Dr. Alqarni underlined that academic writing, with its formal and planned nature, aims to convey intricate concepts in a manner that minimizes the likelihood of challenges. She also introduced the PEAL format (Point, Evidence, Analysis, and Link), a structured approach commonly employed in academic writing.

Further in the session, Dr. Alqarni elaborated on the audience-centric nature of academic writing, emphasizing that understanding the target audience is pivotal in shaping the content. Academic writing style, she explained, is distinct from other forms of writing and often employs a formal register.

She also delved into the typical structure of academic writing, which includes an introduction, body, summary, and conclusion. Dr. Alqarni touched upon common pitfalls to avoid and shed light on strategies to enhance academic writing and assess the quality thereof.

The training session concluded with a summary of the key requirements of academic writing, including planning, organization, accuracy, formality, objectivity, and the use of clear sentence structure.

The event, attended by faculty members, and M.A and Ph.D. students, concluded with a productive discussion and exchange of ideas.
