Unveiling the Semantic Challenges: Exploring Quranic Translation with Ms. Najlaa Al Asbali

Ms. Najlaa Abdulrahman Al Asbali, a 3rd-level MA student in the Translation Program, delivered a presentation on the topic of "An Investigation into Some Semantic Problems Inherent in the Translation of the Holy Quran." The presentation took place via video conference and was attended by the teaching staff of the Faculty of Languages and Translation.

During her presentation, Ms. Najlaa focused on areas of lexical semantics, specifically discussing polysemy and homonymy. She provided examples from both English and Arabic, including excerpts from the Holy Quran, to illustrate these concepts. Furthermore, she analyzed semantic changes, a linguistic phenomenon in which lexical items acquire new semantic dimensions. Examples of generalization, specification, melioration, and pejoration were presented to the audience.

After concluding her presentation, Ms. Najlaa received enthusiastic applause from the audience, and several comments and questions were raised. Dr. Abdullah Al Melhi, the Dean of the Faculty, expressed his gratitude to Ms. Najlaa and encouraged other MA students to develop their public speaking skills and engage in real-world contexts.
