Rector Al-Solamy Presents Translation Department with Certificate of Recognition
On December 18, 2024, in Abha, during a ceremony marking World Arabic Language Day, King Khalid University lauded the Translation Department of the College of Languages and Translation for its significant contributions to cultural and academic exchange. During the event, the department was recognized for translating five scholarly works on camels—originally authored by Fawzan bin Hamad Al-Madhi—including titles such as “The Types of Camels and Their Characteristics” and “Behavior and Breeding Patterns of Camels”—from Arabic into English. These translations aim to enhance global understanding of Arab heritage and the scientific importance of camels, a cornerstone species within regional ecosystems.
The translated works, which focus on the scientific and cultural significance of camels, serve as critical resources for researchers, students, and enthusiasts worldwide. By making these specialized texts accessible to a broader audience, the Translation Department of the College of Languages and Translation fosters meaningful cross-cultural dialogue and encourages the global community to engage with the nuances of Arab culture and its rich scientific traditions.
This project was conducted under the close supervision of the Dean of the College of Languages and Translation, Dr. Ahmad Assiri, and the Head of the Translation Department, Dr. Eisa Asiri. Their academic leadership ensured the highest standards of translation quality and scholarly integrity. In addition, His Excellency Prof. Faleh Al-Solami, President of King Khalid University, presided over the awards ceremony and presented certificates of recognition to Dr. Ahmad Assiri, Dr. Eisa Asiri, and the entire translation team, underscoring the collaborative nature of this endeavor.
The translation initiative involved both faculty members and Master of Translation students. Among the distinguished contributors were:
- Mr. Abdullah Ibrahim Al-Rezgi, a senior colleague with over two decades of dedicated service to the College.
- Amjad Alharthi, Atheer Almuammar, Fatimah Alshehri, Mashael Saad, Reem Albarqi, Reem Alshahrani, Reem Saad, Sumaiah Albassami, and Thuriya Asiri, all alumni of the MA in Translation program. They completed their work during the second semester of the 1445 Hijri academic year as part of their Capstone Translation Project course, under the supervision of Dr. Eisa Asiri.
In line with Vision 2030 and the institution’s strategic plan, the Translation Department of the College of Languages and Translation continues to expand cross-cultural engagement and strengthen Arabic-language scholarship on the international stage. By translating specialized Arab knowledge into English, the department enables a wider global audience to access these resources, fostering academic dialogue and sustained cultural exchange.
These achievements, recognized on World Arabic Language Day, affirm the department’s dedication to scholarly excellence and meaningful linguistic engagement. Through its efforts, the Translation Department positions itself as a key contributor to bridging linguistic barriers, preserving cultural heritage, and advancing global understanding.
